Lets see what the people say. And you can add your comment too!

1) Because of the weapons and the diverce cast of characters most of which are cool.
-Blade_of_Athens

2) For the characters, the atmosphere, the swords, the moves (many are quite uncommon in fighting games), the music, the gameplay. All these things that make the game so different from the other fighting games plus the japanese atmosphere. Definitely my favorite franchise
-kazamasogetsu

3) Because of the guy who uses 7 swords at once, Yosh1tora pwns.
-Mimeblade

4) I love the characters, the stages, the music, the gameplay, its just a great game all-around for me :)
-jm1681

5) Cause its good.
-Joshelplex

6) I loved how epic the game seemed, panning in and out with the camera, the bonus stages, the difference in personality and depth in each character's attitude, that went well beyond their battle poses or what they wore.
-Orochigenjuro

7) Because the characters are awesome. My favorite character is Tam Tam
-HEATXZ

8) Because of the characters, the focus on weapons, and since the series as a whole is very traditional as a 2D fighter.
-SSJ Sonikku

9) Haohmaru and Genjuro are two of the coolest characters i've ever seen in a video game. Their designs and styles blow away most other fighting games.
-Xiru

10) The first thing that caught my attention was the anime-like atmosphere; that, and it was the first fighting game I ever played involving weapons, which made it very different.
-Sagats_revenge

11) The world was all about SFII when the gem known as Samurai Shodown appeared: it had excelent and detailed graphics, a good atmosphere, superb music and sound, cool characters, and about all a SOLID gameplay, eventually winning the honor of being the Game of The Year 1993 (EGM).
-TurboGamera

12) SS1. Cutting people in half. Waiting on a line that went down the corridor of the arcade just to be defeated by guys who would beat the crap out of you if you didn't let them win.
SS2. Supers. Cutting people in half. Waiting on a line that went down the corridor of the arcade just be be defeated by guys who would beat the crap out of you if you beat them in front of their girlfriend.
SS3. Deathblows. Cutting people in half. Waiting on a line that went down the corridor of the arcade to beat the crap out of guys who were in denial about their ability while playing the game high.
SS4. Deathblows. Better game mechanics. Playing the game at home on a modified system with a little understanding of japanese.
Also, the soundtrack for the second game, which was one of the first japanese cds I ever owned.
-chuckkeith

13) I like the Samurai Shodown series a lot, because of the action, animation, and of course the artwork in which I like it very much.
-Chikikyo

14) I love everything about Samurai Showdown the characters, the backgrounds, the music, the artwork and animation, the characters personalitys and the gameplay.im obsessed with Japanese culture and Anime.and Samurai Showdown embodies all that i just mentioned all in one, i just eat it up!. :)
-Benimaru

15) Excellent pacing. Basically set the standard for weapon based fighting games. The ability to clash swords, disarm yourself and your opponent, and the fun of the rage meter. Haohmaru and Hattori Hanzo also make the game great, amongst its many other great characters.

16) Its a old school version of bleach
-donx998

17) I remember playing this game in the arcade machine at a video store for hours when I was in grade 2 ('93)...I fell in love with it. This is an instant must-buy fighter.
-Borb

18) It has neat Japanese artwork and idyllic backgrounds, some great ambient tunes and spot on controls. There's also a good variety of cool fighters to choose from. I'm just saying it has it's own style.
-SKTTR

19) Samurai Shodown is one of the best fighting games ever made. Like Mortal Kombat it does have intense violence, but unlike Mortal Kombat that's not the only thing it focuses on. The fighting system is unique and well executed, so it can be a violent game that's still fun to play without being a murder simulator of some type. The music also scores major points. Don't let the fact that the sequels are better stop you from buying this game. You can never beat the game that the successors got their cool from.
-Elk810

20)This is one of the best fighting games ever. The graphics, sound and playability are second to none, even today. Samurai showdown 2 is even better, and is probably my favorite fighting game of all time

I just like the whole atmosphere of the Samurai Shodown games, kinda like an anime sword fight at times. Its truely one of the most unique fighting series out there along with Guilty Gear. Great gameplay and characters.

I like the series because I feel it lets you have the timing you want. You don't have to always rely on move-sets or over the top combinations to enjoy yourself. The frist time I played I wasn't being punished for making an aesthetic choice.
