MAME 0.136u4 is out. You can download GUI version at http://www.mameui.info/
List of changes:
hng64: Added sub-page texture indexing. Fixes many texture lookups in roadedge and xrally. [Andrew Gardner]
hng64 : More accurately emulated intrinsic camera matrix. [Andrew Gardner]
hng64 : An initial implementation of hardware lighting. [Andrew Gardner]


Results of testing:
-Character models now have lighting and actual 3D look in all HNG64 games. While this certainly enhances character looks and shows polygon number difference between SS64 and SSAZ, lighting implementation is imperfect yet - its way too bright. Characters look kinda bleached (Asura's costume color is light grey instead of being black). Should be fixed in the future MAME releases I believe.

There are no changes regarding 2D effects, stage looks, etc.

Actually I was wrong, there is 1 update in MAME 0.137 (I missed it at first because it wasnt marked with [hng64] in the "whatsnew" list)
Added support for the 'simple' rowscroll mode used by sams64_2

Basically, this fixes the barcode glitch (where 2D layers displayed in very stretched condition, resembling a barcode).
-After 1st stage of single player mode is cleared, Yuga's face now shows properly.
-Backgrounds on 3rd (portal) and 4th (fire) arenas are now displayed correctly (they are also animated)
-Mist on 9th (gandara plant) arena and moving clouds on 10th (yuga's) arena are now displayed correctly

Basically the only change is that character models look not so bleached/white right now, and if anything, look closer to what they were before lighting was implemented.

It seems that lighting still dosen't work correctly. Models are still too bright, and the shadows are very weak and hardly visible.

Lighting works correctly, but theres no shadowing. Basically, for now its only possible to make model textures brighter than default, but not darker than default.

Drew mentions some missing geometry problems, that require more time and expertise, and are better suited for other MAMEdevs who specialize in such things; it seems for now he will concentrate on non-implemented 2D stuff instead, because it can be solved quicker.
